Patagonia: Puerto Madryn

We were all extremely sad to say goodbye to El Calafate, but next on our agenda was Puerto Madryn. Puerto Madryn is an important spot for many species to mate (the verb, not the tea). We took an airplane to Trelew and then a bus into Puerto Madryn. I did not like Puerto Madryn when we were first driving through. It felt like a rundown port city or large New Jersey beach city. Unfortunately, this opinion didn't really change. The hostel was clean, but not nearly as nice or service-oriented as the America del Sur hostel. We had to make our own beds! Luckily, Daniel stayed with us this time, so he offered some comic relief!

The first day, we woke up early for a day long excursion. We went whale watching, then saw penguins and sea lions. It was my first whale watching experience. Now that I have done it, I don't feel that it is necessary to do it again. Yes, it was incredible to see tons of whales up close and personal. But for me, it felt intrusive and the crowded boat made me feel like too much of a tourist, which is such a gross feeling.

The next day, we kind of just hung out until our bus ride back to the city. We thought that it was going to be 24 hours long, but turns out they had misprinted the ticket! It was only 17 hours! It was really comfortable and quite fun!
